The Golden Touch
Just what every piano leg needs... some gilded piano wire. This "piano leg" project it taking me places I never thought I'd go. Isn't that why we all step into the studio every morning?

Strength Test
Here are the results of a strength test I did for piano legs I am making. I will post more about the project later but here is a teaser.
Yup, I think they will hold a Steinway grand piano!

Patience
Finally.
Four or more years ago a client arrived in my shop with 5 pieces of oddly shaped maple burl veneer and asked me to make a cabinet inspired by the veneer shape. And so my journey began...
After making a "proof of concept" and many mock ups
Work began on round drawers
Bow front doors
Hardware
French polishing for that perfect shine
and trimming
and fitting
and overcoming obstacles
Fitting drawers
and turning drawer fronts on the lathe
It was a long journey but well worth it.

Cutting Mortises for the Stern Chair
Here is how I cut the mortises on the back of the Stern chair.
My Domino would not cut a mortise wide enough so I made a jig to accurately overlap two Domino slots. It took quite a bit of trial and error to get the hole spacing on the jig just right.

The jig served as a reference fence for the Domino
The centre line on the jig marked the centre line for the mortise
The outside hole on the jig marked the location for Domino pin to cut the first slot

The mortise is now complete
The walnut tenon fits perfectly
