Piston Drawers

My first article for Furniture and Cabinetmaking magazine describes how to make a round piston drawer.  They are easier to make than you think, so go ahead and add one to your next piece.
You can read the article here.

Patience

Finally.
Patience 2014

Four or more years ago a client arrived in my shop with 5 pieces of oddly shaped maple burl veneer and asked me to make a cabinet inspired by the veneer shape.  And so my journey began...

After making a "proof of concept" and many mock ups

Work began on round drawers

Bow front doors

Hardware

French polishing for that perfect shine

and trimming

and fitting

and overcoming obstacles

Fitting drawers

and turning drawer fronts on the lathe

It was a long journey but well worth it.
